The Day Google Was Born: A Journey Through Time

By alina · October 11, 2026

By the way, cariño, do you know how old Google is?
Old enough to know everything, but young enough to still have no notion of why we search “Why am I exhausted even after sleeping 8 hours?” every working day. Jejeje!!

Google’s story began in 1995, when two Stanford students, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, met and started working on a search engine called BackRub. Yes, BackRub. Thankfully, they changed the name before anyone started asking questions.

By 1998, Google was officially born. The name came from “googol,” a mathematical term for the number 1 followed by 100 zeros. Basically, they were saying, “We plan to have A LOT of information.”

And they weren’t kidding, Si.

From a simple search engine, Google grew into a massive digital universe with Gmail, Google Maps, Google Images, Google Docs, YouTube, and countless other services.

Then in 2015, Google joined the family of Alphabet Inc.—because apparently being one of the mammoth companies on Gaia wasn’t complicated enough.

From Two Students to “Just Google It”

What started with two students, a computer, and a crazy, loco idea became one of the most game-changing technology companies in history.

Today, Google helps us find everything from scientific research to restaurants—and, naturally, answers to questions like:

Why did I walk into this room?

Why is bachata songs by Prince Royce, Daniel Santacruz & Romeo Santos always super, Perfecto?

Google was born in 1998. The internet has never been the same since.

¡Ay, ay, sí, señor, señora!
